'Odds & Ends' & Owls...

Well, it's been a while, and I have no reasonable excuses, at least not ones I am allowed to blog about. :-)

I've been really busy with work related stuff and helping out with UKOUG stuff including the recent Northern Server Technology Day held in Leeds.

However, a couple of things to report...

There's only a couple of days left in which to submit your abstracts for UKOUG 2007.

If you need a reason to do this, then visit this link at the UKOUG website which gives you all the reasons you could possibly need.I've submitted my abstract so will let you know if you can expect to see me presenting this year!

This week I will be attending the Miracle Scotland Database Forum in Edinburgh.

I'm looking forward to learning a lot and meeting up with a few people I haven't had the chance to meet yet.

So, that's the 'Odds & Ends' taken care of, now for the owls - which you may think a bit random.

We live in an area on the North East coast of England, and on Sunday morning, we were alerted by someone in the household running downstairs and yelling 'You have to see the size of the bird on the roof!'

We ran outside, cameras ready and this is what we saw -

a rare sighting of a beautiful Eagle Owl, just sitting on the roof enjoying the sunshine.

We'd earlier thought something was up when the local resident seagulls were squawking more than usual and making a tremendous noise in the garden - this explains why, they really weren't happy by the presence of this stranger on their territory.

Luckily we managed to get a few snaps before it flew off and, despite the fact it was attacked by the other birds as it left, it seemed to remain unharmed.

I now need to go and get packed ready for DBF tomorrow, but will be posting with updates from the event.
